Manoa Dentistry is home to the General and Cosmetic Dentistry Center and the Hawaii Center for Oral Medicine and Orofacial Pain. You’ll feel right at home at the dental practice of Alden T. Suzui, D.D.S. Our philosophy is to treat patients the way we want our own families to be treated. Alden and our caring team provide a personal touch in a warm and friendly atmosphere. When you and your family visit us, we’ll listen to your goals and ideas for your oral health, and then we’ll assess your dental needs. With our array of technologies, we’ll precisely diagnose your oral condition and offer comfortable and effective treatment options that meet, and may even exceed, your goals. Alden and the team are completely dedicated to providing excellent general and cosmetic dentistry, oral medicine, orofacial pain, and sleep apnea treatment. We also seek to provide gentle dental cleanings and thorough dental exams, and if you’re interested in a more beautiful smile, we also provide the latest in cosmetic dentistry techniques as well. Alden Suzui is a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and attends their yearly conference in comprehensive and advanced cosmetic dentistry.
All first time dental exam/cleaning patients will receive a 15-20 minute oral hygiene presentation. Some of the topics of this presentation include proper brushing and flossing techniques and how diet plays a role in cavities and dental erosions. Patients will also receive a 4 page oral hygiene handout that is detailed with accurate research based information. Our practice is heavily focused on preventive dentistry so patients will be educated thoroughly. We are proud to say majority of our patients (greater than 95%) floss their teeth on a daily basis.
Unlike any private dental practice in the United States, Dr. Alden Suzui is trained in oral medicine and orofacial pain. He is board certified from the American Board of Orofacial Pain and the first and only dentist from the state of Hawaii. He is also the only ADA accredited residency trained specialist in oral medicine and orofacial pain in the state of Hawaii. Alden not only graduated from one of the top dental school in the United States, he also completed two postgraduate residency programs (UCSF and USC). Currently, around 30% of all graduating dental students attend postgraduate residency training. Therefore, with his expertise in dentistry, oral medicine and orofacial pain, Dr. Alden Suzui will provide a broader spectrum of care for his patients. It is not uncommon for Alden to discover an abnormality that was not previously diagnosed. He has prevented numerous root canals, extractions, and even extensive medical procedures that were prescribed for patients.
Specialists like Dr. Alden Suzui, who are trained in oral medicine and orofacial pain, are usually found only in dental schools in selected states. What is oral medicine and orofacial pain? Both of these specialties bridges dentistry to medicine. Oral medicine is a specialty in the diagnosis and management of oral diseases such as oral cancer and pre-cancerous lesions, inflammatory/autoimmune muco-cutaneous diseases, burning mouth syndrome, sleep apnea treatment, infectious diseases, and HIV associated diseases. It also addresses the dental management of patients with medical disorders that require special considerations. Orofacial pain is a specialty that focuses on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of oral and facial pain disorders affecting the TMJ and maxillofacial region.
